A song to wake up to...
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face.
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace”.
I’ve been up since 5:20 am, sleepless and restless. I can’t really identify anything that contributed to my short night. Maybe it’s a part of getting older. What I do know is the best antidote for me is my morning routine of journaling, reading the Word, listening to worship music and prayer.
The choir, Praise and Harmony”, has recorded a number of albums that rehearse hymns and older choruses. Occasionally I find myself listening, as I did this morning. And I was confronted with the words of this familiar chorus we often sang when I was grieving up. Every time I hear it it moves me because it is a call to remember several key verses in my scripture
Hebrews 12:1,2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Colossians 3:1,2
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
This morning once again I turn my eyes away from the other things that vie for my attention. I tune out the clamor of the world that seeks to disrupt my peace. I set my mind on the truths of God’s Word that ground me. And I FIX MY EYES on JESUS. He alone is my source of joy and hope.
